Redweb success at the BIMA awards

Well, our office today was full of very bleary eyed colleagues who had rolled in after a late night out at the BIMA awards. Redweb won the category for Electronic Ink Sector Award - Informational which is fantastic news, as i like to think that at Redweb we dont just say the term "user centric" as a bit of "agency spin", we really do believe in placing the needs of the user at the centre of any information architecture or interface.

I think that another thing we realise is that the client is ALSO a user and as such have requirements with regards to interface design and IA. A successful IA should always strike a balance between the information that the end user may want to find with the needs of the client or organisation to push information out. With the Electoral Commision's About my Vote http://www.aboutmyvote.co.uk/ i believe Redweb, spearheaded by head of Redweb UX, Paul Seys, achieved that balance.

The end user can't always have it their own way! blimey, if any of our UX specialists read this....i'm dead :-)

  1. Don't worry Dazzler, I'll let it slide just this once! ;)

In all honesty, I completely agree with what you're saying. It's about finding a balance between the goals of the business and needs of the user.

Aboutmyvote.co.uk is a great example of this. There were key decisions that we had to work with that went against the needs of the user (e.g. users wanted a seamless fully automated registration process) based primarily on the needs or limitations imposed by the business.

This can often been a tricky thing to get right, without creating conflict but I believe in the case of 'About My Vote' we got the balance right.
